But walking across the dark volcanic rocks with the snow cone of Mt Erebus behind and thesoundof penguins braying along thesea ice ofthesound, it is easy to imagine yourself transported back to the early years ofthe last century, for this is a timeless landscape.
He has since gone on to mount an impressive list of works, including bringing thesoundofthesea from the Normandy beaches to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, and the inner vibrations of London's Millennium Bridge to London's Tate Modern.
